After months of anticipation building up to the Open 2018, we dived into five weeks of an emotional rollercoaster from anxiety, excitement, happiness, frustration, triumph, failure, low and high energy.

It's all over now, it’s been and gone. You survived five weeks of hype, nerves, PR’s, crazy workouts, cut up hands, bruises, coffee dates, waiting for Friday to roll around so you can analyse the workout and practice the movements, to try get your nervous ass to sleep to then wake up for an energetic epic Saturday. And so it begins... the obscure pictures and the speculation as if we were cracking the Da Vinci code as to this years open workouts. Background The ever mysterious Dave Castro, the Director of the CrossFit Games and CrossFit Open programming extraordinaire, forever keeping CrossFit Open athletes on their toes. I always think this picture from the 2016 CrossFit Games sums him up rather adequately -  Where Castro wrapped up the event with his hair in cornrows, in a t-shirt that read “unapologetic” with enough fake bronzer on to give Donald Trump pause whilst handing out the winners with vouchers for their Glocks...

 One of New Zealand's best female CrossFitters Emma Wright, based at CrossFit Thorndon will be one to watch in this years CrossFit Open.  This girl has talent and a drive to succeed, 2017 saw her take out Judgement Day, NZ Nationals, compete in numerous weightlifting meets and head to the Pacific Regionals with team CrossFit Thorndon. Ranked 3rd in New Zealand the 69kg weight class in Olympic weightlifting - this girl is rather unstoppable - did I also mention how lovely she is?! I was lucky enough to get Emma to do an interview for FxD, her responses below show her dedication...
